Is pelvic health PT right for me?

Everyone has a pelvic floor. In the pelvic health world, we like to say pelvic symptoms are “common not normal.” Some of the symptoms our grandmas might have brushed off as normal after having kids or attributed to old age, we now know are treatable!

Pelvic health therapy is for anyone who has bladder or bowel urgency, leakage (urine, feces, or gas), constipation, pain with sitting, pain with sex, pelvic pain, pelvic pressure, prolapse, or diastases recti. It can also help you confidently return to activities postpartum following vaginal or cesarean delivery.

Pelvic health therapy can also help manage symptoms that come along with diagnoses like endometriosis, bladder pain syndrome (or interstitial cystitis).

It’s all connected. Getting to the root cause of your symptoms can also help to treat hip, low back, or tailbone pain that may be connected to the pelvic floor.

Meet Michaela

Hi I’m Michaela! I am a physical therapist with 7+ years of experience treating orthopedics and pelvic health. I grew up right here in Kearney, MO and am excited to bring my expertise back to the Northland area where there is such a need for pelvic floor therapy! I love empowering men and women to learn more about their bodies and teach them ways that even simple behavioral changes can support their pelvic floors and make a big difference in their symptoms. I believe knowledge is power and investing in yourself can vastly change your day to day experience- whether it’s taking care of your kids without pain, exercising leak-free, or simply getting through a work day without worrying about your symptoms.

FAQs

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

1

In the state of Missouri, a physical therapy order is NOT required for the first 30 days of care. After your first session, we will determine a diagnosis and reach out to your provider with a request for an order if we suspect your plan of care to extend beyond that time frame. A provider includes: doctor, chiropractor, NP/PA, CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife), or dentist.

How many visits will I need?

2

It depends! Your plan of care is tailored to you. On average, patients will be seen for 6-10 visits. Likely, we will recommend 6-8 visits in order to see the full benefit of pelvic floor therapy. Some diagnoses, such as chronic pelvic pain, require more time while other patients may feel confident after only a few sessions.

Why are you out of network with insurance?

3

The Pelvic Place KC is a cash based physical therapy practice. This keeps insurance from dictating your plan of care and allows you to be seen for the number of visits you need with transparent pricing. With our pay as you go model, you always know how much your visit costs, with no surprise bills months later. We take HSA/FSA cards and will provide a Superbill for you upon request. Head to our services page for pricing details.

What is a Superbill?

4

A Superbill for therapy is a detailed itemized receipt with proper coding that an out-of-network therapist gives you so you can submit it to your health insurance company to request reimbursement.
